Video Library Registration

The District Audio-Visual Library has been established as a service to provide religious videos for our congregations, schools, organizations and for personal use. We have an extensive library on all areas of ministry.

Resources/Activities

Missions - The LCMS World Mission Website is offering a free magazine "Mission Friends" for children, downloadable. You may also order by calling 1-800-254-9495.

Stewardship - A Meal for Many is an Arch Book from Concordia Publishing House, telling the story of the Feeding the Five Thousand and creates a special teaching moment about responding to Jesus' care and love for us. A special teaching page at the back of the book helps parents and instructors explore this idea with their children.

Worship - Articles on involving children in worship are available from the Synod's Commission on worship.


Voyages

The new preschool materials in the CPH new religion series, "Voyages," are now available. The District Office has a sample kit of these materials (also for Kindergarten and the elementary grades) available for your curricular review. If you would like to borrow it so that your staff and/or education committee would like to see these materials before purchasing them, please contact the District Office at 319-373-2112.


Crisis Manual Available

Since each crisis is different, the manual mentioned below intends to help pastors, lay leaders and crisis teams handle each situation in the way that best meets the needs of their congregations.

"God's Care for Congregations in Times of Crisis" is a manual recommended by the Board for Congregational Services of IDE.  The program is copyrighted and may be obtained on CD from the District Office. The cost per disc is $25.00.

 

ListServ for New DCEs and Teachers

Lutheran Education Association (LEA) invites new workers to participate in listserv groups especially created for them. Participation is by invitation only; LEA membership is not required. The group exists for new workers (first or second year) to share experiences, ideas, frustrations, encouragement and questions to which others may respond. Several experienced professionals also participate in this group. If interested contact Ed Grube at ed.grube@lea.org and you will be invited to join their respective group.


Mission Resources

The District Parish Education Committee has provided every congregation with a brochure describing our District Missions and how schools, Sunday schools and weekday programs can help these missions. If you need more copies of the brochure, please contact the District Office.

"Resources for Involving Children in God's Mission," is a catalog of resources available from LCMS World Mission specifically designed for children's mission involvement.


Sunday School Teachers Resource
Curriculum

Interaction is a magazine written specifically for Christian school teachers. The last several issues have been dealing with various aspects of the Sunday School curriculum. It is also a great source of practical information and is packed with information and teaching ideas for all ages. It is available from Concordia Publishing House at a subscription price of $16.60 on one year (four issues).


Using Vans for Transporting Children

An excellent article dealing with the issue and concern of using 15-Passenger vans for transporting children on field trips, etc. is available from the web site of GuideOne Insurance at http://www.guideonecenter.com Type in 15 passenger van to bring up the articles related.


CPH Newsletter

Concordia Publishing House (CPH) has an online newsletter devoted to schools and educators. These articles are beneficial to all teachers in our congregations. Some of the present articles in the newsletter include: "Free Teachers Planning Guide," "Gear Up for National Lutheran Schools Week with these helpful tips," "Unify Your Team and Pursue Your Schools Vision Together," and "The ABCs of a Great Teacher."

Weekly Devotions for Lutheran Educators

A weekly devotion for Lutheran educators is now available online through the Lutheran Education Association (LEA). To download a copy go to their website: www.lea.org.devotion.htm

LEA also has a weekly newsletter online, LEANEWS. Check their website if you wish to subscribe.


Scouting

The office of Family Ministry serves as the LCMS liaison for civic youth agencies such as the scouting programs in many of our congregations and schools. If you are interested in learning more about scouting as a resource for family/school ministry, brochures and a video are available for the cost of shipping.

Free Recruitment DVDs Available

Two videos that were previously released by Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne in VHS format are now available in the DVD format. The videos are "Today's Seminary-Tomorrow's Pastors" and "Serving the Church- A Journey Around the World," are available at no cost (either in the DVD or VHS format).
